As we all know, Covid has really thrown a wrench in this year, and weddings were a huge casualty. It’s been so sad to watch all of my couples have to postpone their weddings this year. Either because they were scheduled to take place during the Shelter in Place quarantine this spring, because large gatherings still were prohibited later in the year, or because they simply didn’t want to have to physically distance from their guests and have masks in all of their photos. If that was you, keep reading for the perfect way to celebrate your original wedding date! Because hint: it’s 100% still worth celebrating.
Unfortunately I’m also in that boat. Even though George and I had been planning a tiny <25 person wedding from the start before Covid, we ended up not being immune to the restrictions in place and decided to postpone our wedding to next year. I still wanted to commemorate our original wedding date so I came up with this elegant and easy at-home surprise for George. Read on to replicate what I did for yourself!
I had the idea to put together a fancy prom-like dinner under the stars in my head for a while. It was an easy and fun at-home date idea, and who doesn’t like getting dressed up?? It was still sitting in the back of my head when one of my friends asked me if I had any plans to celebrate our upcoming original wedding date. I realized this was the perfect opportunity to put my idea into action! I was envisioning champagne, candles, romantic music, and great conversation outside under the trees and stars.
One afternoon I designed an invitation in Canva, printed it, and secretly left it on George’s keyboard for him to find the next morning. (If you’d like to use the invitation I designed, you can find that here and edit/print to your heart’s content!) He had NO idea I was planning any of this. That afternoon I closed all the blinds so he couldn’t see what I was setting up, and I shopped my house to put this tablescape together. It came out perfectly!
If you’re wanting to do this for your own date night, don’t feel that you need to go shopping to put a pretty table setting together! Use what you can find around the house. I bet you have more supplies than you think! The “tablecloth” I used is actually one of my bath towels that I draped over our camp table. Don’t be afraid to get creative and think outside of the box!
All in all, 10/10 recommend this way to celebrate your original wedding date. It felt so elegant and romantic; and best of all, it was easy and FREE to put together!
