Serving Sonoma County, Napa Valley, Anderson Valley, and Northern California wine country

If I had to guess, that dream probably involves rolling hills of vineyards with a few bottles of world-class wine sprinkled in, maybe some special-occasion indulgences.

Tell me if this sounds familiar:

Tell me if this
sounds familiar:

You want to get married somewhere in wine country that feels unique and personal to you. Not a cookie-cutter venue, and not a production. Just... yours.

And also: you're probably feeling overwhelmed by where to even start.

  • Do we need permits to get married at a vineyard?
  • Can we visit both redwoods and vineyards in one day?
  • How do we make "just us" feel special enough?
  • What if our families are upset we're not doing something traditional?

California's wine country is huge — Sonoma, Napa, Anderson Valley, Mendocino — and you have questions like:

That's where I come in. I don't just show up with a camera; I help design and guide you through the entire experience.

"Meg took the time to truly find out what we wanted out of our special day. We were planning our  California elopement from New York and she was so helpful with sending suggestions of locations, fun things to do, and a timeline to keep us on track."

- Aubrie & Greg, 2025 couple

"From our first phone call with Meg, we immediately knew she was the perfect fit for us. We can't recommend her enough!"

Where should you actually get married in wine country?

That depends entirely on what kind of experience you're looking for.

Here's an honest breakdown of each region — what makes them different, what they're best for, and the practical details you need to know.

Sonoma County Elopement Photography

  • Perfect for couples seeking diverse Sonoma elopement photography locations
  • More laid-back and less "scene-y" than Napa
  • Unmatched diversity: redwoods, coast, vineyards, rolling hills
  • Easier access to private, uncrowded locations
  • Russian River Valley charm + rugged Pacific coastline

Whether you're looking for a Sonoma Coast elopement with ocean views or a Russian River Valley vineyard ceremony surrounded by redwoods, Sonoma County elopement locations offer unmatched variety.

Almost nowhere else can you easily experience coastal redwoods, sunny picturesque vineyards, and sunset on the rugged bluffs over the Pacific Ocean coast in one day. Sonoma is the ultimate adventure elopement destination.

What makes Sonoma different:

  • Many wineries welcome intimate celebrations & on-site portraits
  • Armstrong Redwoods requires a day-use pass and a ceremony permit
  • Fog can roll in on the coast unexpectedly

Practical details:

Napa Valley
Elopement Photography

  • Stunning estates and wineries
  • Classic California wine country aesthetic
  • Mountain backdrops (Mt. St. Helena, the Palisades)
  • World-class dining for your celebration meal

There's a reason Napa's an iconic wedding destination: perfectly manicured vineyard rows and estates with centuries-old olive trees lend quintessential romance.

Napa elopements tend to feel more elegant and refined without being stuffy. Think: intimate ceremony on a hillside overlooking the valley, champagne toast in a private garden, sunset portraits between vine rows that stretch to the mountains.

What makes Napa special:

  • More venues require advance booking/fees than Sonoma (the stunning grounds — from St. Helena hillsides to Yountville estate gardens — are worth the planning)
  • Winery tastings and experiences tend to be more expensive than Sonoma
  • Traffic can be heavy on weekends — plan accordingly

Practical details:

Anderson Valley & Mendocino Wine Country

  • Seriously uncrowded (you won't hit traffic here)
  • Blend of vineyard landscapes and ancient redwood groves, with the option to extend to the Mendocino Coast for dramatic ocean cliffside portraits
  • Cooler climate = dramatic fog, moody light
  • Perfect for couples who want privacy above all else

For couples who want a wine country experience that feels more remote and unique, Anderson Valley is your answer.

This is Northern California wine country at its most intimate: family-run tasting rooms, apple orchards mixed with pinot noir vineyards, redwood groves that open into expansive valleys, and barely anyone around.

What makes Anderson Valley different:

  • Requires more advance planning (fewer vendors, longer drive)
  • Best April-October (winter can be very wet)
  • Can combine with Mendocino Coast for vineyard-then-coastal-portraits experience

Not sure which Northern California wine region is right for your elopement? This comparison will help you decide between Sonoma County, Napa Valley, and Anderson Valley based on your priorities.

How to Plan Your Wine Country Elopement in 5 Steps

Your choice depends on what kind of experience you're craving: Sonoma gives you the most diversity (redwoods, coast, vineyards), Napa feels more elegant and upscale, and Anderson Valley offers uncrowded remoteness. I'll help you figure out which region matches your vision during our discovery call.

1. Choose Your Region (Sonoma, Napa, or Anderson Valley)

This could be a private family-owned vineyard, a public redwood grove, a coastal overlook, or even the backyard of a vacation rental with big views. I scout locations for every couple and send you specific GPS coordinates, photo examples, and honest assessments so you can make confident decisions about your ceremony spot.

2. Select Your Ceremony Location

Some locations don't require anything, while others need advance reservations or special-use permits. Private vineyards typically just require advance booking (and maybe a small site fee or wine purchase), while public lands like Armstrong Redwoods need permits that cost $200 (the same is true for all CA state parks). I'll tell you exactly what's required for your chosen locations and how to get it.

3. Obtain Permits and Permissions (if needed)

This is where your day becomes uniquely yours. Do you want to start with a sunrise hot air balloon ride above the vineyards? Book a few vineyard tours and tastings? Include a picnic in the redwoods? Have a private chef create a custom 4-course meal for you? I help you design an experience that incorporates the experiences that matter most to you, whether that's multiple locations, quiet downtime, adventure activities, or a celebratory meal together.

4. Choose Additional Activities and Experiences

With your locations and activities decided, we create a detailed timeline that builds in space to breathe. This isn't a minute-by-minute schedule that feels rigid — it's a flexible framework that ensures you have enough time in each location without feeling rushed. I account for drive times, lighting conditions, and realistic pacing drawn on years of experienceso your day feels unhurried and present rather than a checklist you're racing through (which leads to your wedding feeling like a blur).

5. Build Your Timeline

you bring the vision, I'll map the way

you bring the vision, I'll map the way

Most couples who want to elope in wine country have never seen it done before. You're creating something from scratch, and that's both exciting and also completely overwhelming — but luckily you don't have to navigate it alone.

I help couples design intimate, authentic wedding experiences through Sonoma, Napa, and beyond — then document them in a way that feels effortless while you're living it.

I'm not just showing up with a camera. I'm helping you figure out what your day should actually look like: which locations match your vibe and values, how to create a timeline that feels unhurried,  which vendors I trust, and how to navigate family expectations when you're doing something different than they imagined.

My name's Meg, and I'm a Northern California elopement photographer who specializes in wine country celebrations.

Meet Your Wine Country Elopement Photographer

Yes, you're hiring me to photograph your elopement.

  • The architecture for your day — Location recommendations based on your vision (whether that's a vineyard ceremony, redwood elopement, or Sonoma Coast cliffside vows), timeline that builds in space to breathe, and guidance on everything from permits to where to stay

  • The freedom to be fully present — Because when someone else is holding the plan and you trust they've got it, you can actually be there instead of managing everything

  • A gallery that feels like time travel — Not because of my camera settings (though those matter), but because you were so genuinely alive in those moments that the photos become portals back to exactly how it felt

I help you create an experience worth lingering in, then make sure you have a way to remember it forever.

I don't just document your day.

I don't just document your day.

But you're also getting...

"Her insights and personable approach took so much stress out of the entire experience for us. Giving us a bunch of ideas of where to take photos and when was so helpful and really added to the magic of the whole event."

- Molly & Patrick, 2025 couple

"Meg really is the best, and we can't imagine navigating this whole experience without her."

Wine Country Elopement Photography Portfolio

Maybe you want to start your day in Armstrong Redwoods and end with sunset at a Dry Creek Valley vineyard. Maybe you want an intimate Napa estate ceremony followed by a celebratory dinner in Yountville. Maybe you want a mix of locations that shows off wine country's diversity.

Every couple's elopement is completely custom.

Whatever your wine country elopement looks like, the point isn't to check boxes — it's to create an experience that feels like you.

"We were very overwhelmed with the amount of decisions out there but after our first call with Meg, we were so comforted by her work and energy. She goes above and beyond to be a fantastic supportive friend who is there for you during planning for (and on) your big day."

- Rebecca & Mason, 2025 couple

"We are so thankful to have chosen Meg! Her energy and guidance made the day perfect."

You don't have to have everything figured out before we talk (in fact, most couples don't).

That's exactly what I'm here for.

You don't need to know your exact date, your coverage needs, or even which wine country locations you're drawn to before reaching out. All you need to know right now is: does this kind of experience feel like what you want? If yes, let's talk.

This includes things like flights, transportation, lodging, photography, and customized experiences like a private chef, hot air balloon ride, and private vineyard tours.

My wine country elopement experiences start at $8,250 for a full-day elopement and $6,100 for a half-day.

The best time for a wine country elopement is May through October, with May-June offering perfect temperatures and peak green foliage, and September-October providing fewer crowds and turning grape leaves.

Here's a full breakdown:

  • Spring (April-June): Cooler, temperate weather, lush green hillsides and vineyards, occasional rain
  • Summer (July-August): Warmest weather, golden hillsides, longest days, more crowds
  • Fall (September-November): Harvest season, surprisingly nice weather, grape leaves turning
  • Winter (December-March): Moody, dramatic vibes, fewer crowds, higher chance of rain

It's cliché but it's true: every season is beautiful for different reasons. It just depends on what aesthetic and experience you're drawn to.

You can absolutely visit multiple locations during your elopement — and most of my couples do! Wine country's beauty is that you can experience incredible diversity, from Russian River Valley vineyards to Dry Creek Valley's family wineries to Healdsburg's upscale wine country charm. A typical day might look like: morning portraits in coastal redwoods, ceremony in a vineyard, golden hour on the Sonoma Coast. I'll help you create a timeline that feels unhurried while still letting you see multiple landscapes.

No, permits are usually only required on public land like regional and state parks. For private vineyards, most family-owned wineries in Sonoma and Napa are happy to host intimate elopements — some charge a small site fee, others just ask that you purchase wine or book a tasting. I'll help you navigate exactly what you need based on where you want to go.

Wine country can be crowded, depending on the day of the week and the time of year that you're visiting. It's important to consider timing when choosing your elopement date: weekdays are a good option any time of year; early spring and fall are your best bets for the middle of a Venn diagram with ideal weather and minimal crowds.

During our planning process, I'll ask you how important privacy is to you and recommend locations accordingly. If "no other humans in our photos" is non-negotiable, we'll build your day around private vineyards, off-the-beaten-path redwood groves, and strategic timing.

The short answer: you'll have the clear umbrellas and body warmers I keep on hand for couples to keep you warm and dry; beyond that, some of the fun and magic lies in embracing what Mother Nature has to offer.

The long answer: if you're eloping in a season with a higher risk of wet weather, during our planning process we'll identify both your ideal locations and backup options that work in wet weather: covered areas at wineries, redwood groves that provide natural shelter, or even beautiful home rental properties if you want to pivot entirely.

If weather makes you anxious, we can also talk about seasonal timing when choosing your wedding date (late spring through early fall has the most reliable weather).

I recommend booking your winery elopement 6-12 months in advance, especially if you're planning for peak season (May-September). That said, I've worked with couples who planned everything in 4-6 weeks, so if you're on a shorter timeline, reach out anyway. The bottom line: the earlier you start planning and contacting your vendors, the less stress and more options you end up with.

You made it alllllll the way down here, so —

Something tells me that you're picking up at least some of what I'm putting down.
