Sonoma County Elopement Photographer

Serving Sonoma, Healdsburg, Armstrong Redwoods, Sonoma coast, and wine country

Maybe you've visited before, or just scrolled past photos online, and thought this is it — this is the vibe we want. Not a production. Not a performance. Just you, your person, and a landscape that actually feels like your life together.

Maybe you've visited before, or just scrolled past photos online, and thought this is it — this is the vibe we want. Not a production. Not a performance. Just you, your person, and a landscape that actually feels like your life together.

Tell me if this sounds familiar:

Tell me if this
sounds familiar:

You know how incredible Sonoma is and you're thinking about getting married there — but somewhere that feels relaxed and real, not like a wedding factory. Somewhere just for you.

And also: you're probably feeling overwhelmed by where to even start.

  • Where can we have a ceremony without crowds?
  • Can we do redwoods and vineyards and the coast in one day? (I'll answer this up front: hell yeah you can)
  • How do we make "just us" feel special enough?
  • What if our families don't understand why we're doing it this way?

Sonoma County alone has so much to offer — the Russian River, Healdsburg, the coast, the forests — and you have questions like:

That's where I come in. I don't just show up with a camera; I help design and guide you through the entire experience.

"Meg took the time to truly find out what we wanted out of our special day. We were planning our California elopement from New York and she was so helpful with sending suggestions of locations, fun things to do, and a timeline to keep us on track."

- Aubrie & Greg, 2025 couple

"From our first phone call with Meg, we immediately knew she was the perfect fit for us. We can't recommend her enough!"

How to Plan Your Sonoma County Elopement in 5 Steps

Your choice depends on what kind of experience you're craving, whether that's the quiet redwoods, wild coast, sun-dappled vineyards, or charming downtowns. I'll help you figure out which places match your vision during our discovery call.

1. Choose Your Settings

This could be a private family-owned vineyard, a public redwood grove, a coastal overlook, or even the backyard of a vacation rental with big views. I scout locations for every couple and send you specific GPS coordinates, photo examples, and honest assessments so you can make confident decisions about your ceremony spot.

2. Select Your Ceremony Location

Some locations don't require anything, while others need advance reservations or special-use permits. Private vineyards typically just require advance booking (and maybe a small site fee or wine purchase), while public lands like Armstrong Redwoods need permits that cost $200 (the same is true for all CA state parks). I'll tell you exactly what's required for your chosen locations and how to get it.

3. Obtain Permits and Permissions (if needed)

This is where your day becomes uniquely yours. Do you want to start with a sunrise hot air balloon ride above the vineyards? Book a few vineyard tours and tastings? Include a picnic in the redwoods? Have a private chef create a custom 4-course meal for you? I help you design an experience that incorporates the experiences that matter most to you, whether that's multiple locations, quiet downtime, adventure activities, or a celebratory meal together.

4. Choose Additional Activities and Experiences

With your locations and activities decided, we create a detailed timeline that builds in space to breathe. This isn't a minute-by-minute schedule that feels rigid — it's a flexible framework that ensures you have enough time in each location without feeling rushed. I account for drive times, lighting conditions, and realistic pacing drawn on years of experienceso your day feels unhurried and present rather than a checklist you're racing through (which leads to your wedding feeling like a blur).

5. Build Your Timeline

Here are some of my favorites to recommend. You could...

And speaking of those activities...

  • Book a private wine-tasting & vineyard tour
  • Hire a luxury picnic company to create a dreamy lunch
  • Enjoy a self-paced kayak tour on the Russian River
  • Speed through a redwood canopy on a zipline (or two)
  • Meander the forests/mountains/vistas on a hike
  • Take a hot air balloon ride at dawn above wine country

And yes, these are all real local experiences you can book!

$495 - 565 per person; tours are 5 hours long

Want to experience another dimension of Sonoma wine tasting? Then you'll want to hop into one of Bohemian Highway's Range Rovers for the ultimate private tasting and tour experience. During your tour you'll have access to wineries that aren't open to the general public, and be hosted by a local wine expert. The tour will also include a chef-prepared gourmet meal to round out the palate experience!

$200 - 700+, depending on the number of people in your group and add-ons; rates typically start at 2 people

This isn't your mother's picnic! Luxury picnics are a great way to elevate your elopement in a low-cost way. There are many companies in the Bay Area who offer this service; they usually offer a choice of themes/colors, and add-ons such as board games, extra charcuterie boards, balloon installations (you know the snazzy ones!), etc. Many companies have pre-determined locations they service, but will often also service a different location if you request it (like the backyard of your Airbnb/VRBO rental, for instance!).

$50 - 80 per boat; tours are self guided and 1-10 miles long

One of the best ways to experience Sonoma County is on the water, and there's no better place to do that than the region's only river. This is a great way to see such an incredible landscape from a new perspective! Kayakers can go at their own pace, which makes it a perfect activity for beginners and experts alike. Kayaks and canoes can be rented from nearby Burke's Canoe Trips and Johnson's Beach for day use (or ask me about borrowing mine!).

$119 - 169 per person, per tour; overnight stays start at $700 and includes 2 zip tours and 2 meals

If you're an adventure seeker, you'll definitely want to consider ziplining at Sonoma Canopy Tours. Think of the story you'll be able to tell! Really, how many people do you know that went ziplining on their wedding day? Talk about epic. You'll be able to choose from a couple different zip tours, depending on your comfort level with heights and speeds (some ziplines are higher, longer, and faster than others). If you want to take it up a notch, you can also rent a treetop yurt to stay overnight in -- talk about seeing the redwoods in a completely new way!

Typically free, but parking and/or park fees may apply

Nothing beats a classic hike. Alltrails is my favorite resource to scout new hiking adventures! If you'll be hiking in your wedding outfits, I recommend budgeting an hour per mile -- even if you're an experienced hiker. This will allow you to walk without breaking (too much of) a sweat, and also allows plenty of time to stop for photos along the way. Hikes are a great way to see the epic views Sonoma County has to offer, and if you opt for a weekday elopement, odds are you'll have most of the trail to yourself!

$275 - 1,650 depending on privacy; tours are 3-4 hours long

Viewing wine country from a hot air balloon is definitely an incredible way to spend your wedding day.  Sonoma Ballooning offers a couple tour options: for $275 per person, you'll ride with a couple of other participants. For $1,650, you'll be able to have an exclusive experience with just the two of you (and any guests you want to bring along). The in-air ride is about an hour, but the entire start to finish experience is around 3-4 hours -- enough time to witness the beauty of the balloon inflating and use it as a backdrop for photos!

"Meg was with us every step of the way leading up to our big day. When she sent us our photos, our jaws literally dropped and we just stared at them for hours."

- SOPHIE & CODY, 2022 couple

"Meg knows what she’s doing big time and made our day more special than we could have ever imagined!"

Living in west Sonoma County (90 minutes north of San Francisco), I'm no stranger to how incredible this place is. As one of my recent SoCo elopement couples said, "We've yet to find anything that this area doesn't offer!" In other words, this is a magical place to elope. And because I'm a local with insider knowledge, I'm just the person you've been looking for.

I help couples design intimate, authentic wedding experiences throughout Sonoma and beyond — then document them in a way that feels effortless while you're living it.

I'm not just showing up with a camera. I'm helping you figure out what your day should actually look like: which locations match your vibe and values, how to create a timeline that feels unhurried, which vendors I trust, and how to navigate family expectations when you're doing something different than they imagined.

My name's Meg, and I'm a Northern California elopement photographer who specializes in wine country celebrations.

Meet Your Sonoma Elopement Photographer

Yes, you're hiring me to photograph your elopement.

  • The architecture for your day — Location recommendations based on your vision (whether that's a vineyard ceremony, redwood elopement, or Sonoma Coast cliffside vows), timeline that builds in space to breathe, and guidance on everything from permits to where to stay.

  • The freedom to be fully present — Because when someone else is holding the plan and you trust they've got it, you can actually be there instead of managing everything.

  • A gallery that feels like time travel — Not because of my camera settings (though those matter), but because you were so genuinely alive in those moments that the photos become portals back to exactly how it felt.

I help you create an experience worth lingering in, then make sure you have a way to remember it forever.

I don't just document your day.

I don't just document your day.

But you're also getting...

"Her insights and personable approach took so much stress out of the entire experience for us. Giving us a bunch of ideas of where to take photos and when was so helpful and really added to the magic of the whole event."

- Molly & Patrick, 2025 couple

"Meg really is the best, and we can't imagine navigating this whole experience without her."

Maybe you want to start your day in Armstrong Redwoods and end with sunset at Sonoma Coast State Park. Maybe you want an intimate Dry Creek Valley estate ceremony followed by a celebratory dinner in Healdsburg. Maybe you want a mix of locations that show off Sonoma County's diversity.

Every couple's elopement is completely custom.

Whatever your Sonoma elopement looks like, the point isn't to check boxes — it's to create an experience that feels like you.

"She went above and beyond in more ways than we can even articulate! Everything she did was flawless. Meg's a master of her craft and captured our elopement in a way that exceeded our wildest expectations."

- Kayla & Kent, 2024 couple

"We didn't really know what we wanted besides being in nature; we were really overwhelmed. Meg gave us so many useful resources and helped us dream up our perfect day."

You don't have to have everything figured out before we talk (in fact, most couples don't).

That's exactly what I'm here for.

You don't need to know your exact date, your coverage needs, or even which wine country locations you're drawn to before reaching out. All you need to know right now is: does this kind of experience feel like what you want? If yes, let's talk.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Eloping in California can cost anywhere from $500 to $15,000 or more — it just depends on your preferences and priorities when creating your wedding celebration. This includes things like flights, transportation, lodging, photography, and customized experiences like a private chef, hot air balloon ride, and private vineyard tours.

My wine country elopement experiences start at $8,250 for a full-day elopement and $6,100 for a half-day.

The best time for a Sonoma elopement is May through October, with May-June offering perfect temperatures and peak green foliage, and September-October providing fewer crowds and turning grape leaves.

Here's a full breakdown:

  • Spring (April-June): Cooler, temperate weather, lush green hillsides and vineyards, occasional rain
  • Summer (July-August): Warmest weather, golden hillsides, longest days, more crowds
  • Fall (September-November): Harvest season, surprisingly nice weather, grape leaves turning
  • Winter (December-March): Moody, dramatic vibes, fewer crowds, higher chance of rain

It's cliché but it's true: every season is beautiful for different reasons. It just depends on what aesthetic and experience you're drawn to.

You can absolutely visit multiple locations during your elopement — and most of my couples do! Wine country's beauty is that you can experience incredible diversity, from Russian River Valley vineyards to Dry Creek Valley's family wineries to Healdsburg's upscale wine country charm. A typical day might look like: morning portraits in coastal redwoods, ceremony in a vineyard, golden hour on the Sonoma Coast. I'll help you create a timeline that feels unhurried while still letting you see multiple landscapes.

No, permits are usually only required on public land like regional and state parks. For private vineyards, most family-owned wineries in Sonoma and Napa are happy to host intimate elopements — some charge a small site fee, others just ask that you purchase wine or book a tasting. I'll help you navigate exactly what you need based on where you want to go.

Sonoma County can be crowded, depending on the day of the week and the time of year that you're visiting. It's important to consider timing when choosing your elopement date: weekdays are a good option any time of year; early spring and fall are your best bets for the middle of a Venn diagram with ideal weather and minimal crowds.

During our planning process, I'll ask you how important privacy is to you and recommend locations accordingly. If "no other humans in our photos" is non-negotiable, we'll build your day around private vineyards, off-the-beaten-path redwood groves, and strategic timing.

The short answer: you'll have the clear umbrellas and body warmers I keep on hand for couples to keep you warm and dry; beyond that, some of the fun and magic lies in embracing what Mother Nature has to offer.

The long answer: if you're eloping in a season with a higher risk of wet weather, during our planning process we'll identify both your ideal locations and backup options that work in wet weather: covered areas at wineries, redwood groves that provide natural shelter, or even beautiful home rental properties if you want to pivot entirely.

If weather makes you anxious, we can also talk about seasonal timing when choosing your wedding date (late spring through early fall has the most reliable weather).

I recommend booking your Sonoma elopement 6-12 months in advance, especially if you're planning for peak season (May-September). That said, I've worked with couples who planned everything in 4-6 weeks, so if you're on a shorter timeline, reach out anyway. The bottom line: the earlier you start planning and contacting your vendors, the less stress and more options you end up with.

You made it alllllll the way down here, so —

Something tells me that you're picking up at least some of what I'm putting down.
