As you can tell by the title, I photographed Jillian and Shay’s engagement session at the Sutro Baths in San Francisco and it was such a great day!! (and if you aren’t familiar with the Baths’ history, highly rec checking out this page!) Although what you can’t tell from the title is that I’m finally writing and publishing this post a whopping eighteen months after the fact. 😂 It’s fine, everything’s fine. That’s the benefit of timeless photos ya’ll! You’d never know if I didn’t tell you.
The three of us met up in Mill Valley before their session; it was a great midpoint to meet at to carpool to SF! I picked out a cute little hole in the wall wine bar to grab a drink before the session and it was so fun to chat and hang out for a bit first since we hadn’t met before that! Also, alcohol or cannabis before a session (*in moderation to loosen up*, ya party animal) is always recommended. 😉
Since the dawn of time, photographing the Baths has been on my bucket list. So, I was absolutely stoked when Jillian and Shay told me they wanted to do their session there! They dated long distance in the beginning of their relationship, and when they were able to meet in person they would often come to the Baths, so it held a special place in their hearts! Being a native from Marin County, I’m very familiar with how cold and foggy San Francisco can be — yet when we arrived I was still shocked to see the gusty and chilly conditions that were pounding the beach below and the rocks off of the Baths. In June. I just had slightly higher expectations, you know? Maybe 70º, and a light breeze. Doesn’t feel like a lot to ask for.
At any rate, these guys were champs through the cold weather and (unless you look REALLY closely) you can’t even notice it was cold at all. Their love for each other is so pure and I feel like you can totally feel it in these photos! Also, they are complete #hairgoals. Am I right or am I right?
This last photo was taken as we walked back to the car at the end of the night — you’d never know it, but it was almost dark enough to need a flashlight to see by. The power of raw image data and editing tools will never not astound me. So there you have it friends, my first Sutro Baths engagement session! One for the books for sure.
